For Dynamo Midfielder Brad Davis, supporting the troops comes as naturally as the game of soccer. Growing up in a military family himself, Davis witnessed first-hand the hardships associated with life in the armed services. His signature service initiatives are the “Brad’s Brigade,” military appreciation events that coincide with Houston Dynamo home games. Families of servicemen from across the Houston area are invited to attend the game as well as a special pre-game tailgate. They also have the opportunity to meet Brad at a post-game meet and greet. Moreover, the Dynamo use one Military Appreciation Night to raise money for "Homes for Our Troops." During the 2009 season, Davis scored goals on both of the Brad’s Brigade nights, to the delight of the hundreds of servicemen in attendance. Davis explains, “I’d hear stories of everything they have to go through, day in and day out over there, and it’s not pretty. People tend to forget about that in the back of their minds. This is something that’s very small and very easy to do and you don’t understand how far it goes.” Brad’s also invested in his team’s community outreach efforts, taking the time to visit children’s hospitals, veterans’, and military bases around the region.
