How He's in the Game
LaMarr Woodley has been giving back to the community ever since he was in college at the University of Michigan. LaMarr and friend Clifton Ryan of the St. Louis Rams launched the Heroes For Kids benefit, a yearly golf outing, as a way to give back to his hometown, Saginaw Michigan. Returning every summer, he brings teammates to take part in the golf portion of the event and to sign autographs for Saginaw children. To further strengthen his bond with the community, he established the LaMarr Woodley Annual Football Camp held June of each year. This is a free camp for over 300 local Saginaw area kids ages 8-14 at Saginaw High School. Kids receive gifts as well as autographs from LaMarr and his colleagues.
In addition to giving back to his hometown, LaMarr has also taken an active role in Pittsburgh, PA. He heads up the Holiday Toy Drive, held every year at The Mall at Robinson. The players signed autographs in exchange for the donation of a new, unwrapped toy to benefit Children’s Child Life Department. The Child Life Department provides support, education and assistance to children, teens and their families who are adjusting to illness or hospitalization through programs and services appropriate for children’s development, emotional and educational needs.
Recently LaMarr founded LaMarr Woodley’s Sack Attack program. For every sack LaMarr records in the 2010 NFL Season he has pledged $500 to support organizations serving disadvantaged kids in Michigan and Pittsburgh LaMarr also works closely with the Steelers’ community relations department through various team events and works with the local Boys and Girls Club. Woodley has also teamed up with the Prevent Another Crime Today Initiative (P.A.C.T.) to help both solve and reduce the number of crimes.
