Charity Gets a Lott of Help

September 17, 2003

Daily News — “We’re friends of Ronnie’s,” said just about everyone who attended the 2003 Music, Art and Heart Benefit at Villa Montalvo Sunday evening. And, Ronnie is NFL great Ronnie Lott who in 1989 founded All Stars Helping Kids, a non-profit organization that is based on the simple idea that a community can help raise a child.

Lucky for Ronnie that he has lots of friends, because helping children throughout the Bay Area is not an inexpensive project. Sunday night, Lott was helped by his friend Jackson Browne, who performed gratis for hundreds of guests, some who paid upwards of $5,000 to hear him sing old favorites as well as new songs from his latest release, “The Naked Ride Home.”

The evening’s proceeds benefited a number of organizations including Sacred Heart Nativity School in San Jose (renovation of the school building), Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto (student scholarships), Young Life (summer camp and computer equipment) and UCSF Children’s Hospital.

“Ronnie has been a great friend of Sacred Heart Nativity School,” said Fr. Peter Pabst of Sacred Heart. “He and his group has given and pledged one-half million dollars to the renovation of the school building.”

In the Crowd

Other friends in the crowd included Wendy Perez, Jody and Stratton Sciavos, Dana and Tom Evan, Ruth and Michael Fletcher, Ann and Jeff Sperbeck, Barbara and Tom Stephenson, Steve Luczo, Liz and Chris Mullin, Judy Baeth and Steve Dennis, Montalvo Executive Director Elisbeth Challener and her husband, Brett Bauchman, K101 morning radio host Don Blue and Karen Lott.

After the concert the crowd sipped margaritas, mojitas, martinis and raspberry cosmos while enjoying some seriously delicious food that was prepared, served and donated by Greg St. Claire’s Avenir Restaurant Group (Mistral, A Tavola, Nola, Milagros, Kingfish and D’Asaro).
