Playing For Rising Stars of America

How He's in the Game

Baron Davis hopes to serve as a role model for area youth, encouraging them to set goals and sharing his five rules for success: “teamwork, courage, no shortcuts, believe in yourself, and conquer your fears.” He has established two foundations: TeamPlay uses social networking websites to provide mentoring for inner city youth and Rising Stars of America works to foster "ethical and social values and life skills through athletics and mentorship."

Davis teamed up with Cash Warren and started a production company and produced Bloods and Crips: Made in America, a documentary about inner-city gangs in South Central Los Angeles that aims to serve as a reminder of the hardships faced by many who live there. He tapped into the network of community organizers, former gang members, and academics to give the film the reality and grit that has earned it a spot at the Sundance film festival, Tribeca, and a run at inner-city movie theaters across the country.

Inspired by his childhood, Davis says, “Growing up, basketball was my life. It kept me off the streets, it kept me focused, it provided a purpose. I want to offer an experience to these talented players to help motivate them on the court and off the court in the community.”
