How He's in the Game
“The big thing for me is I come to this school and I see how much attention these kids are getting at such a young age and I'm extremely impressed. I didn't get the proper education for myself until I was a junior in high school. I've had a number of friends who aren't doing so well now because they didn't get that same attention that these kids are getting at this age.”
Brandon Roy is committed to improving education for children all over the United States. Since founding the Brandon Roy Foundation, Roy has striven to instill confidence, leadership, and determination in young people through its programs offering education in academics, athletics, and life skills. He has been the Honorary Co-Chair and supporter for fundraisers at St. Andrews Nativity School, and he has visited Jefferson High School and Cleveland High School. He opened the Roy Court, a public basketball court in Seattle and runs the Brandon Roy Free Basketball Clinic, to reinforce the fundamentals of basketball.
In 2009 Brandon received the Magic Johnson Award for his success on-court paired with his friendliness to the media. His good attitude and commitment to improving the lives of young men and women make him a strong force for change in both the Portland community and the entire nation.
