How He's in the Game
Chris Draft established The Chris Draft Family Foundation in 2006 with the inspiration and lessons he learned while working with youth and families throughout his college and professional career. Draft and the Chris Draft Family Foundation engage in community projects that support youth, families, schools, civic groups and health awareness organizations. He is also an active athlete playing with asthma and serves as the national
spokesperson and voice of hope for the Winning with Asthma campaign, which is a project of the National Lieutenant Governor's Association. In addition to these key roles, he has supported the Asthma and Allergy Foundation and is the national ambassador for the Parent Teacher Association.
Chris has been awarded the JB Award for Community Service in 2008 and 2009, as well as the St. Louis Rams Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the NFL Alumni Spirit Award and the AT&T National Sportsmanship Award. Chris looks for any opportunity to help his community. Chris was so inspired by the movie, The Great Debaters, he invited 300 outstanding local students to a free private showing, with a community panel, a luncheon, and a chance for the students to read their own writing and win a $100 savings bond. He has since repeated this format to get other high school students and fellow Rams fans together.
When asked about what inspires him, Draft says: “My inspiration for
giving back comes from those who came before me, especially my parents... When I look at myself as an NFL football player... we have so many resources at our disposal that we can really draw attention to some of the most important issues facing people today and create real change.”
