How He's in the Game

Since childhood, Staley has had a passion for literacy and education. His mother was a librarian, instilling in him a love of reading and reinforcing the importance of education. In the past two years, Staley has participated in numerous literacy awareness programs, including promoting literacy to preschoolers with JumpStart and reading at the Kindergarten kickoff literacy event of the Bring Me a Book Foundation.

In 2008, Staley’s efforts were recognized when he received the 49ers Community Relations Service Award, given to players with outstanding commitments to community relations. The following year, Staley became a spokesperson for the Scholastic Summer Challenge, promoting literacy to youth across the country.

At literacy events, Staley is not afraid to shed his on-field demeanor to get immersed in playing with the kids. His hands-on approach to teaching allows him to blend right in with the kids he teaches and he brings passion and enthusiasm to young boys and girls.
