How He's in the Game

Mark Teahen is the spokesperson for the Challenger Division of Little League Baseball. The Challenger Division provides opportunities for mentally and physically handicapped boys and girls to play Little League baseball. The Challenger Division emphasizes friendship, building self-esteem, and equal acceptance of all players. Teahen has been a local spokesperson since 2006.

Teahen has organized the Challenge your Fashion event for the Challenger Division each of the last two years, which has garnered over $275,000 and has quickly become the landmark fundraiser for the Challenger Division.

Since joining the Royals, he has participated in the Royals FanFest, Wives Food Drive, Gloves for Kids, and Royals AbilityCamp. In 2008, he was nominated for the Hutch Award for his outstanding dedication. He was also nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award and the Branch Rickey Award for his exceptional community service.

About Mark Teahen


Mark Teahen was born in 1981 in Redlands, California. He attended St. Mary’s College. Since being drafted in 2002 by the Oakland Athletics, Teahen has held a batting average of .268, has hit 47 home runs, and has recorded 243 RBIs. In July 2006, he was regarded as one of the best third basemen in the league, recording 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in the final 38 games of the season.
