How He's in the Game

While he’s been involved in the community since early in his NFL career, Todd Heap recently took the next step and streamlined his charitable efforts by establishing his own foundation in 2007. The Todd Heap Foundation provides assistance to children and families in need, and is currently raising $1 million for a new pediatric center at Franklin Square Hospital Center.

Prior to starting his foundation, Heap’s philanthropic endeavors included a trip to Bethesda Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Hospital in 2003 to visit U.S. soldiers wounded in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following his visits, he joined military Baltimore-area families to connect with troops overseas through Operation Live Connections. Heap took a trip in 2004 to Germany where he visited troops heading to and returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. He was joined by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, Keith Brooking and Warrick Dunn of the Falcons.

Each year Heap co-hosts the annual Goodwill Gridiron Halloween Party benefiting the Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, which provides support and employment to disadvantaged people or those who have disabilities. Heap recognizes that he is both fortunate and blessed to be able to achieve exceptional athletic accomplishments and is inspired to assist people in his community who are less fortunate.

About Todd Heap

Todd Heap was born in Mesa, AZ and attended college at Arizona State. He was drafted to the NFL in 2001 as a tight end for the Baltimore Ravens. He holds the record for most receiving two-point conversions in a single season, with four of them taking place during his 2003 season. That same year, Heap was named to the NFL Pro Bowl for the second consecutive year. In 2006 Heap was named to USA Today’s "All-Joe Team" and honored as NFL Alumni "Tight End of the Year."
