The Mindful Life Project – Changing Lives
Malik is a 14 year old who lives in Richmond, CA with his incredible mother, LaReese. A few years ago, his family suffered a tragic loss when his older brother was murdered. Malik’s trauma was deep and he began to get into trouble at school. As a result, Malik was referred to Mindful Life Project’s Rise-up small group intervention program.
After just a few months, Malik responded well to mindfulness practices as a way to counteract the pain and suffering that he was understandably going through. Over time, his academic performance steadily improved. His mother, LaReese, credited the mindfulness practices as a major contributing factor.
While Malik still continues the healing process to this day, he has made major strides. Most recently, he received perfect test scores for both language arts and math, and was awarded a full scholarship to the prestigious De La Salle High School in Walnut Creek. His mother and the school attribute much of his success to the incredible work of Mindful Life Project – where LaReese is now on the Board of Directors.
